Description
ANTIQUE ALL ORIGINAL GERMAN FEATHER TREE, CANDY CONTAINER, HAND-BLOWN GLASS ORNAMENTS AND BISQUE HEAD DOLL, CA: 1889 This is a unique and very rare Christmas set from Germany. It consists of a 12" feather tree which has a 2" candy container as the base of the tree and it's original candles on the tree (they have bent from age and/or heat but are still all intact). There are 12 hand-blown glass ornaments for the tree and a little Heidi looking bisque head doll. This is just an incredible set which is ALL ORIGINAL...including the box. Of special note is the box which is marked on the back, "Made in Germany" and 275/1095 which means, I believe, that this is #275 out of a limited edition of 1095. (The back of the box does have some damage...there are splits in the cardboard but it is still in very sound, displayable condition.) The top and sides of the box is covered with a holly & berry holiday print paper. The interior of the box still contains the original cardboard dividers to store the tree on the right side, the doll has her own compartment and each little ornament has it's own little compartment with it's original cushioned paper liner. The feather tree is just adorable and comes attached to a 2" round candy container which is marked "Germany" (the container can also be used to store the glass ornaments.) The tree has little wax candles attached to the tips of the limbs, however, the candles have bent because of age and possible heat it encountered through the years. The 12 glass ornaments are in excellent condition and all except two (2) has it's original metal ring at the top for hanging on the tree. Please note that these are very fragile and do have some tiny chips at the top (where the hangers are inserted into the ornament) but the ornaments are still in wonderful, original condition some with minor fading of the color they were painted. The little doll is a 7" bisque head doll marked "1416" and dressed as Heidi. She is wearing all original clothing which is sewn on and has never been removed. The skirt and bonnet are a off-white wool, and she wears a blue wool blouse (minor moth holes in the wool); a maroon and blue stripe silk apron and she is wearing a maroon fringe scarf that is trimmed with an embroidered trim. She has cotton bloomers and a slip. Her body is a paper mache body and jointed at the hips, shoulders and neck (her head needs to be restrung). Her stockings are ribbed and painted; her shoes are also painted. Her original brown glass eyes are set and accented with long painted eyelashes and brown one-stroke eye brows. She has rosy colored cheeks, peach lips on her open mouth which show her 4 tiny, tiny teeth. In the pictures you will note 2 tiny paint flecks near the corner of her left eye. Most likely a flaw when she was made. There are also a couple of pictures of her mold lines on the upper top of her head...again...these are mold lines and NOT hairlines. There is also a small "clump" of porcelain on the rim of her head...which again, is originally made when the doll was created. The doll has been lighted and there are no crack or hairlines. This is such an incredible set...and has too many unique features to mention so feel free to email with questions. I cannot emphasize enough how rare this set is to find in this condition...but I need to pay the bills so I'm listing this wonderful set for auction that includes FREE SHIPPING with BUY IT NOW!!!!!
