Description
This fabulous antique, all-bisque German doll was manufactured by Kestner. She is commonly referred to as a “Wrestler” due to her chubby arms and legs. She stands 9” tall (23 cm) and wears rare gold boots. This lovely doll is in excellent condition. See below for specifics. Manufacturer: Kestner, 1880-1905 Size: 9” (23 cm) tall Marks: incised 102 on the back of the head; both arms marked with number 2 Body: five-piece, original, all-bisque wrestler-type body with rare gold painted boots and white socks with thin blue trim, arm and leg sockets are lined with leather; blush shading at the breasts, knees, belly, and elbows. Facial Features: vivid blue glass eyes, delicately painted facial features – feathered brows; finely-painted eyelashes; outlined, two-tone lips; open mouth with two square upper teeth and one square lower tooth; evenly-colored pale bisque Clothing: wears an antique cotton lace onsie (fragile fabric with some staining) under a gold antique silk dress with silk and cotton lace (hand made for doll) and a blue ribbon sash with antique enameled button; the matching bonnet features antique lace and antique tiny flowers; clothes have been sewn on the doll, I removed them for the photos and then restitched the back seam (I am not a good seamstress – perhaps you may want to add hooks and eyes); tiny pearl earrings Wig: long strawberry blond mohair wig with muslin wig cap; natural curl/wave; gold silk bow in the back Condition: overall excellent, no cracks, hairlines or chips (head has been lighted to check for damage); bisque on the body has some inconsistent tinting and inherent manufacturing flaws (three pits smaller than a pinhead – one on ear and two on arm) common on this type of doll; possible repair to tip of one finger and to back of neck socket; eyes have been reset Value: 16th Blue Book value for this doll is $3500-4000, add extra for unusual gold boots (page 24) This precious little all-bisque Wrestler doll is described to the best of my ability. I am not an expert so please ask questions! I will post all questions with pertinent information at the bottom of the listing.
