IN ~ about this piece: On Nov-16-08 at 19:08:13 PST, seller added the following information: about this piece: about the storks: The mother stork is 10" high and is made of a combination of Shulte dense curly mohair & and mini-bear fabric. She has a leather beak and eyelids over antique taxidermy eyes and leather legs and claws. She is jointed at the hips and has a poseable head & neck with ball-jointed wings. The chick is made entirely of mini-bear fabric, and has aleather beak and eyelids over antique taxidermy eyes and leather legs and claws. He is jointed at the hips and has a poseable head & neck with wired wings. As I tried to capture the grace and beauty of the adult stork, so I tried to capture the essential 'scruffyiness' of a young stork chick. I hope I've succeeded. about the base: The base for this vignette is shaped, stitched and formed entirely from leather, trees, flowers and rocks. The brown leather base, roots and tree are formed from one continous piece, all the other forms of vegitation were stitched over wired and shaped & hardened in a process unique to the artist. The base is weighted and quite heavy at 3.5 pounds, which might account for the higher shipping charges you are seeing. about the artist: Kelly Dean is a toymaker, a soft-sculpture artist and bearsmith - a craftsman in the old-world style - who makes one-of-kind soft-sculpture bears, birds, rabbits and other animals for the collectors market.
